Head to the city
You won’t have to go far to find a great walk, with the vast plains of Clifton Downs nearby and a pretty special view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge thrown in for good measure. Leigh Woods is Bristol’s largest woodland area and leads onto Ashton Court Estate just outside the city, offering 850 acres of open parkland and woodland to lose yourselves in, with plenty of paths, pools and space to roam. For something wilder, Badock’s Wood follows the River Trym through a stretch of ancient woodland, perfect for dogs who like to explore.
Prefer an urban stroll? Bristol Harbourside is one of the city’s most scenic spots and a firm favourite with four legged visitors.

Walks worth travelling for
Bristol sits within easy reach of some of the South West’s finest dog friendly days out. Head around 45 minutes down to the north Somerset coast and you’ll find Brean Beach, a seven mile stretch of golden sand and dunes that ranks among the longest in Europe, and a firm favourite with dog walkers. Nearby Sand Bay, Uphill Beach, Middle Hope Beach and Ladye Bay are all worth exploring too, making it an easy area to spend a full day out with your dog.
For something a little different, the pretty coastal town of Clevedon is well worth a visit, while the rolling hills of the Mendips and the peaceful shores of Blagdon Lake offer some of the most rewarding walking in the region.
